Don Alfonso has just lost his job playing his beloved marimba (xylophone) at a fancy hotel in Guatemala City. This folkloric, indigenous instrument is seen as old-fashioned and is no longer appreciated. Desperately needing work and wanting to continue playing the instrument he loves, Don Alfonso has a brazen idea. He approaches fading underground heavy-metal legend, Blacko, and suggests something truly innovative. Why not fuse the sound of the marimba with heavy metal? With the help of his glue-sniffing nephew, Chiquilian, Marimbas from Hell is born.Integrating the stories of three unlikely characters, Julio Hernandez Cordon's unique second feature adeptly explores the boundary between documentary and fiction filmmaking.
